Neuropsychiatric Disorders

Overview & Clinical Expertise

Although a psychotic disorder can be debilitating and highly disruptive, it doesn’t need to prevent you from living a fulfilling and rewarding life. The Psychotic Illnesses center at Silver Hill is one of the best mental health facilities for individuals with conditions that are characterized by intermittent or long-standing psychoses that prevent them from adequately functioning in daily life.

The conditions treated in this program include:

Schizophrenia – A psychiatric disorder characterized by a loss of appropriate emotional responses and the inability to organize thoughts and behaviors. It can also include delusional thinking and hallucination. Read more about our treatment for Schizophrenia

Schizoaffective Disorder – A condition in which features of both psychosis and mood problems (depression or mania) occur together with the features of psychosis persisting beyond the episodes of mood disturbance. Read more about our treatment for Schizoaffective Disorder

Bipolar Disorder with Psychotic Features – A serious mental illness that causes changes in a person’s mood, energy and ability to function. Read More about our treatment for Bipolar Disorder

Substance Induced Psychosis – A condition with various psychotic symptoms stemming from long term substance abuse.

Treatments & Therapies

We offer three levels of adult care for Psychotic Disorders that correspond with your level of need.

Inpatient – To be admitted to our Psychotic Disorders Center you must first complete an inpatient program. The goals of this level of care are diagnostic assessment, crisis stabilization, medication management and symptom reduction. The inpatient program at Silver Hill offers a high clinician-to-patient ratio so that you can receive the individual attention you require, and be prepared for subsequent levels of care.

Transitional Living – After your symptoms are stabilized in inpatient care, you enter our Transitional Living Program. Here you reside on campus for a minimum of six weeks and focus on psychosocial rehabilitation and medication management. This program is designed as a step-down from inpatient hospitalization, but you will continue to have access to inpatient level of care, as needed at any time.

Intensive Outpatient – Programs are available at Silver Hill based upon your diagnosis and ongoing treatment needs.

Co-Occurring Disorders

Adults with a psychotic disorder often have more than one diagnosis. These “co-occurring disorders” require a special understanding and corresponding treatment.  Because Silver Hill is a true psychiatric hospital, we are uniquely qualified to provide comprehensive care for patients who need treatment for more than one disorder.

We find that one or more of these psychiatric conditions may co-occur and require simultaneous treatment along with a psychotic disorder:
