“We have a lot of confidence that we can help people, and we’re very accepting and non-judgmental.”
Helping people to accept themselves as they are, yet move forward with change, are the dual objectives of licensed clinical social worker Carolyn
Grobe, a highly trained specialist in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
“DBT is a very practical therapy that’s taught in four modules: mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance,” says Carolyn.
Carolyn applies and customizes the skills taught in DBT to a variety of patient conditions including addiction, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and persistent mental illness.
“The most enduring satisfaction of my work,” says Carolyn, “comes from the people that I help. I get cards, letters, emails…and so do the other clinicians that work with them. Just hearing that somebody is doing well is what we’re all here for.”
