“We welcome patients by making them feel proud that they’ve actually shown up here, because it can be hard to do that.”
Sandra Benti, LCSW, is the licensed clinical social worker leading all of the group therapy and also treating patients individually in the Outpatient Addiction Program.
“We help patients to get in touch with their feelings and thoughts,” Sandra says, “while encouraging everybody to participate by being welcoming, warm, and non-judgmental.”
Sandra sees her biggest impact on patient treatment in the group therapy work she leads: “Patients are there with other patients, they are supportive of one another, and they are having a therapeutic experience about ways to stay sober and make changes in the most problematic areas of their lives.”
Patients know that Sandra takes their recovery very seriously, and she treasures hearing their feedback: “It is so gratifying to hear that people are doing well, they’re appreciative and their lives have changed,” she says.
