Community Resilience Campaign

Building Resilience Together and Empowering our Community to Thrive

About the Community Resilience Campaign

Silver Hill Hospital’s Community Resilience Campaign (CRC) is dedicated to supporting organizations through education and skill building locally and around the world by offering techniques and strategies to enhance the resilience needed to achieve happy and well-balanced lives. The CRC provides a range of dynamic workshops where participants learn practical skills for stress management and self-care.  These interactive programs focus on resilience strategies for leaders, healthcare professionals, police officers and other first responders, school systems, colleges/universities, and many other diverse community organizations. Together, we champion resilience as a collective journey, bolstering connections, breaking stigma, and promoting well-being. Our evidence-based resilience program is grounded in Silver Hill Hospital’s values of compassion, collaboration, accountability, innovation, and respect. The CRC seeks to empower communities to navigate mental health challenges with strength and hope. We strive to cultivate resilient communities where each individual can thrive! Please contact us at resilience@silverhillhospital.org

Resilience Tips

Increase Your Sleep

According to the National Institute of Health (2019), getting enough sleep is as vital to survival as food and water. Lack of sleep inhibits the formation of new neural pathways and makes it harder to concentrate and react quickly. To improve your sleep hygiene:

  • Set room temperature to between 60-67 degrees F
  • Limit screen time after dark to reduce cortisol production
  • Ease the transition before drifting off by deep belly breathing
  • Enlist a family member for a 5-minute foot massage or acupressure (or do it yourself!)
  • Put socks on cold feet

Move Your Body

Exercise can provide protective factors during a time of increased stress. Exercise can boost your mood, reduce the risk of certain illnesses, and decrease stress. And if you were exercising but stopped, think again. That reduction may not be in your best interest. That decrease in exercise can result in depressive symptoms and anxiety (Weinstein et al., 2017). To get more movement in your day:

  1. Lift something moderately heavy, safely (like a coffee table book or a jug of water) 10 times or more during a break.
  2. Take the stairs or park in an adjacent lot to increase daily steps
  3. Take a free online Yoga class

Meditation

According to a comprehensive review of meditation programs for psychological stress and well-being (Goyal et al., 2014), mediation improved symptoms associated with anxiety, depression, and pain, reducing psychological distress. With a five-minute break, you can even get in a quick meditation that starts with box-breathing. Here are some resources our staff finds helpful:

  • Headspace App 100’s of articles for healthy minds, moods, and goals
  • Insight Timer App: 45,000 Free Meditations
