Frontotemporal dementia is the third most common neurodegenerative cause of dementia and has an approximately equal incidence to Alzheimer’s disease as a cause of early-onset dementia. It is frequently misdiagnosed. We will discuss the presentation and pathophysiology of frontotemporal dementia. We will also discuss the important role of frontotemporal dementia in improving our understanding of other disorders that involve the frontal lobes, including psychiatric disorders.

Educational Objectives

As a result of participating in this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Identify the symptoms of frontotemporal dementia
  2. Discuss how an understanding of frontotemporal dementia can inform our understanding of other disorders involving the frontal lobes
