Virtual Grand Rounds: Modifying Emotional Memories in the
Human Brain
Can we change our emotional memories? Because the environment we live in is constantly changing, we need to continuously adjust our emotional responses and update our emotional memories with relevant information. In extreme situations, when emotional memories become traumatic, we might even wish to ‘erase’ emotional memories altogether. The talk will describe a series of studies aimed at discovering the behavioral rules and neural mechanisms underlying emotional control and flexibility, and the processes that may lead to a permanent change in emotional memories.
