This presentation will cover the concept of stigma, how societal stigma towards substance use has developed historically, and how this impacts both the development and treatment of substance use disorders. Additionally, we will review language and terminology that may unintentionally convey prejudice towards individuals with substance use disorders and discuss the use of more person-centered vocabulary when working with patients.

Educational Objectives
As a result of participating in this activity, learners should be able to:
1. Recognize stigma and the effect it has on patients with substance use disorders
2. Explore their personal views on substance use disorders
3. Identify stigmatizing language and how to communicate using more person-centered terminology
