SILVER HILL HOSPITAL NAMES NEW PRESIDENT AND MEDICAL DIRECTOR

Dr. Andrew J. Gerber to Take Helm at Top Psychiatric Hospital  

Silver Hill Hospital has announced the appointment of Andrew J. Gerber, MD, PhD, as its new President and Medical Director effective November 26th.  Dr. Gerber is currently the Medical Director/CEO at Austen Riggs Center in Stockbridge, MA.  At Silver Hill, Dr. Gerber will be responsible for the strategic direction, program development, patient care and operational oversight of the Hospital.

“We are incredibly pleased to have Dr. Gerber join the Silver Hill team,” said Peter Orthwein, Board of Directors Co-Chair. “His proven leadership combined with his clinical expertise will play a key role in building upon the Hospital’s legacy while carrying it to new levels of excellence in the years ahead.”

Dr. Gerber has served in his current capacity at Riggs since 2015. Internationally known, Riggs is consistently named a top 10 “Best Hospital in Psychiatry” by U.S. News & World Report. Among his many affiliations, Dr. Gerber is an associate clinical professor in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Columbia University, an adjunct associate clinical professor at the Child Study Center at Yale University, and an adjunct associate professor of Psychological and Brain Sciences in the College of Natural Sciences at University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Dr. Gerber completed his medical and psychiatric training at Harvard Medical School, Cambridge Hospital, and Weill Cornell and Columbia medical schools and his psychoanalytic training at Columbia. He completed a PhD in psychology at the Anna Freud Centre and University College London. He has published and received grants in the areas of psychotherapy outcomes, developmental psychopathology, attachment, and functional neuroimaging of dynamic processes, including social cognition and transference.

In accepting this appointment, Dr. Gerber said, “I am honored to become the ninth president and medical director of Silver Hill Hospital. Silver Hill Hospital admits more than 3,000 adolescents and adults annually for disorders that include addiction, depression, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, personality disorders and schizophrenia among others. The Hospital is especially known for its expertise in treating complex conditions and co-occurring disorders.
