Mark Russ, MD

Chief Medical Officer

As Chief Medical Officer for Silver Hill Hospital, Mark Russ, MD oversees clinical operations of its inpatient, residential, and intensive outpatient programs, and he collaborates with the hospital’s nursing, pharmacy, and laboratory services departments to ensure the highest level of care for patients and their families. Drawing on 40 years of clinical and administrative experience in a variety of psychiatric settings, including inpatient and emergency services, Dr. Russ is committed to enhancing Silver Hill’s programming and improving access to cutting-edge treatments to help people with a wide range of psychiatric and addiction disorders.

Dr. Russ’s interests include the neurobiological underpinnings of self-injurious behavior in patients with borderline personality disorder, assessment of suicide risk, aggressive behavior in psychiatric inpatients, inpatient unit structure and function, quality improvement, and the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on mental health. He’s written more than 40 peer-reviewed papers on these and related topics.

An established author and decorated educator, Dr. Russ believes that clinicians who write and think critically about problems turn out to be the best doctors as well. “I’m looking forward to mentoring the early-career psychiatrists at Silver Hill to help them develop their professional intellectual abilities and interests and to encourage them to contribute to the scientific community through scholarship.”
