Treatment for Adolescents
Treatment for Adolescents
The Adolescent Program is a comprehensive treatment facility for youths ages 13 – 17, who are struggling with psychiatric disorders or co-occurring substance abuse issues. Housed within the beautiful Silver Hill campus, the adolescent program is separate from adult care. This allows our expert clinicians to focus on your unique requirements as a member of this age group.
What We Treat
Adolescent treatment at Silver Hill includes:
- Depression
- Anxiety Disorders
- Self-Harm
- Co-Occurring Substance Use Disorders
Co-Occurring Disorders
Many of our young patients have more than one diagnosis. You may have a combination of depression and substance use, for example. These “co-occurring disorders” require diagnosis by highly qualified clinicians, along with skilled care to treat both conditions simultaneously.
Because Silver Hill is a multidisciplinary psychiatric hospital, we are uniquely qualified to provide comprehensive care for you if you need treatment for more than one disorder.
How We Treat
We work hard at the Center for Adolescents to establish a collaborative relationship with you, your family and your clinicians in the community. We build on these connections to help you achieve a lasting recovery.

Our core values at the Center for Adolescents are:
- Compassion
- Collaboration
- Family-Centered Care

Treatment
All treatment is provided in a warm, supportive, homelike atmosphere designed to promote healing and recovery. Your treatment is overseen by a board-certified adolescent psychiatrist, and it begins with a diagnostic assessment that forms the basis of a treatment plan.
Patient-focused, evidence-based therapies can include:
- Medical Detoxification
- Pharmacologic (Drug)Therapies
- Individual and Group Counseling
- A Structured Treatment Environment
The cornerstone of our treatment in the Center’s Transitional Living and Intensive Outpatient programs is Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). DBT is a highly-structured form of behavioral therapy that provides you with the skills necessary to regulate emotions, control destructive behaviors and improve interpersonal relations. DBT helps you accept distress in life by providing tools to make positive behavioral changes and feel at peace with your reality.
Levels of Care
As an adolescent patient at Silver Hill, you can move back and forth seamlessly between Inpatient, Transitional Living and Intensive Outpatient care as needed – without disruption in treatment or dislocation in care. No matter where you are in this continuum of care, you keep working with the same hospital staff on the same hospital campus.

To Families
Family support of your child in treatment is an important part of successful recovery. Support for families themselves is equally important, because mental illness is a family affair. We encourage close collaboration among patient, family and community providers wherever possible. And we host numerous on-campus family programs for education and support.
