May is Mental Health Month

It has been said, “there is no health without mental health” because all aspects of our lives are impacted by our mental health. Take time to educate yourself about mental illness and addiction. Mental disorders are real medical illnesses just like diabetes or heart disease. They are not weaknesses or character flaws. With proper treatment, people can live full, successful lives.

• 1 in 4 adults experiences a mental illness every year
• 1 in 5 teens, ages 13 to 18, experience a mental illness each year.
• Mental health disorders are the leading cause of disability in the United States and Canada.
• Approximately 60% of adults and almost half of youth, ages 8 – 15, with a diagnosable mental illness received no treatment last year.
