Meet Bruno Ifebi, SUNY Medical Student and SHARE Learner

This October, we had the pleasure of hosting medical student Bruno Ifebi from SUNY Downstate. Bruno focused his time at the Neuropsychiatric and Substance Use Residences, and he made a lot of friends and fans along the way.
When/how did you decide that you wanted to be a psychiatrist?
[When I started Medical School], I was still unsure what specialty I wanted to pursue. But psychiatry was my favorite. I found the work fulfilling — utilizing psychotherapy and medication to improve the mental wellness of patients. I’m especially interested in working with marginalized communities who have limited-to-no access to mental health care.
How have you been spending your time at Silver Hill Hospital? Do you have any insights or initial reactions to the work that you are doing?
I’ve been trying to learn as much as possible. There are so many
different interesting learning opportunities, and the staff members here are kind and willing to educate. I have really enjoyed my time.
Do you have a favorite spot on campus?
It’s all beautiful.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time (such as it is)?
Play and watch sports, read, wander, and spend time with family and friends.
