Sigurd Ackerman, MD (1940 – 2024)
It is with great sadness that Silver Hill Hospital shares the news of the passing of Sigurd Ackerman, MD, who served as our President and Medical Director from 2003 to 2017. Dr. Ackerman (“Sig”) was a friend and mentor to many and will be greatly missed.
Sig Ackerman shaped the future of Silver Hill, introducing many of the current programs and guiding the hospital in the early 2000s, a notably challenging time for small psychiatric hospitals in the healthcare landscape. He leaves a strong legacy and is an eminent figure in Silver Hill’s 93-year history.
As much as Dr. Ackerman was admired and respected for his extraordinary work in the mental health field, he was equally adored for his affable and compassionate nature. [He was referred to as ‘avuncular’ in our 75th Anniversary book.] We are deeply grateful for his contributions, which have left an enduring mark on the countless lives he touched.
There is a remembrance gathering on Saturday, September 28, from noon to 2 p.m. at Hoyt Funeral Home in New Canaan. Here is a link to his obituary — even if you didn’t know Sig Ackerman, you will likely enjoy reading it: Sigurd Ackerman, MD
