When did you start volunteering for Silver Hill Hospital?
2021
Why did you choose to volunteer for Silver Hill Hospital??
I love that we have such an incredible facility in my backyard – we are blessed to have this amazing resource. People come from all over the world to be here. I went to Detox at Silver Hill in 2010 and should have stayed. I was not ready at the time, but my short stay was a turning point for me to get sober a year later in 2011.
What kinds of things do you do for Silver Hill?
I lead a meeting once a month at the Martin Center. I share my experience, strength, and hope. I also made holiday cookies this past December, which was fun, but I am not a baker.
What is your favorite part about your role??
I love that every time I go, I seem to connect with a woman and sometimes they call me following. What a gift to offer someone the hope I have found in recovery. I always feel better when I leave. I also have such gratitude for my sobriety and for the hard work I have done over the years to get to where I am today and for all the people who have helped me get here.
Please tell us a little about yourself!?
I grew up in Darien and moved back there 13 years ago after living in D.C., Chicago, and NYC. I have worked for the national nonprofit, Shatterproof, since its beginning. I love my job. I worked in PR agencies for the first 15 years of my career. My parents live in Darien. I have a brother, a sister-in-law, and two nephews in Charlotte. My nephews light up my life.
What else do you enjoy doing??
I love taking classes at my gym, Equinox. I enjoy cycling, strength, and Pilates. I also love to paddleboard a few mornings a week in the summer. I also love to travel and read. I am walking my second Camino route this Spring.
Do you volunteer with any other organizations?
I am very active with my church, Noroton Presbyterian. I am currently serving as an Elder and oversee the nominating and communications committee. I love my church family.
