Dr. Jonathan Fader is a Motivational Interviewing trainer and is part of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT). He trains internationally on M.I. and is a co-author of the book Coaching Athletes to Be Their Best: Motivational Interviewing in Sport. Dr. Fader is a licensed Clinical and Performance Psychologist known for his work with the New York Mets, New York Giants, and first responder groups like the New York City Fire Department (FDNY). Dr. Fader is also the co-founder of Union Square Practice, a mental health center in Manhattan.

Who is this training designed for?

This one-day Motivational Interviewing Training is appropriate for professionals and professionals-in-training who have no prior or limited exposure to Motivational Interviewing techniques. People whose work involves helping clients achieve behavior change will benefit most from this intensive MI training. Such disciplines include but are not limited to, psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, physicians, nurses, case workers, outreach workers, dietitians, therapists, clergy, personal trainers, and probation/parole officers.

What to expect from the training?

During the training, we will review all you need to know about the theory and principles of MI. Through the use of presentations, videos, and demonstrations, Dr. Fader will guide participants in learning the technique, style, and spirit of MI.

All participants will have ample opportunity to practice their Motivational Interviewing skills with the support of Dr. Fader using “role-play,” “real play,” and the help of a standardized client (an actor trained to play a client who will give participants feedback on their MI technique during the practice interviews). Participants will learn how to use the Motivational Interviewing OARS skills.

There will be an hour lunch break with a catered lunch included. Water and coffee will be provided. We will also take several 10-minute breaks throughout the training.

What is the cost of the training?

The cost for this training is $300.00 USD for non-student and $250.00 for active students.
