Neurobiology of Parent/Infant Attachment

This lecture will discuss the importance of the mother-infant bond, how we can model and disrupt this bond in rodents, and the detrimental neurobehavioral consequences that can arise in the mother-infant dyad as a result of disruption of this bond due to adversity exposure. This lecture will be framed in the context of understanding environmental influences as risk factors for affective and depressive disorders.

- Describe how adversity exposure disrupts maternal caregiving
- Explain how adversity exposure influences reward-related brain activity
- Evaluate the usefulness of rodent models for studying the etiology of depressive disorders
