What Next? What to Do When Anti-Depressants Fail

Presented by:

Chris Aiken, MD
Editor in Chief, Carlat Psychiatry Report

When antidepressants fail, augmenting with other antidepressants is unlikely to work, and augmenting with antipsychotics is unlikely to work for long. In this session, we will look at how to personalize the treatment, address common deficits, and choose treatments with lasting benefits.

Educational Objectives:

As a result of participating in this activity, you should be able to:

  1. Name three common strategies for treatment resistant depression that are unlikely to work
  2. Describe effective interventions for vascular and inflammatory depression
  3. Differentiate the relative benefits of lithium, antipsychotic, and pramipexole augmentation
