The Youth Mental Health Imperative: Early Access, Early Action, Early Intervention

Presented by:
Steven Adelsheim, MD
Clinical Professor and Director, Stanford Center for Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing
Associate Chair for Community Engagement and Commitment, Stanford Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
We know the data: 50% of all mental health disorders begin by age 14, and 75% by age 24. And we know the science—early intervention in mental health is just as critical and effective as in any other area of medicine. Yet U.S. systems remain far from delivering on that promise. In this session with Dr. Adelsheim, we’ll explore how to strengthen and expand youth-serving early intervention mental health systems—from school-based services to integrated youth hubs to coordinated early psychosis initiatives—into a comprehensive, developmentally attuned continuum of care.

As a result of participating in this activity, you should be able to:
- Define three components of a public mental health early intervention model for youth
