Virtual Grand Rounds: ‘Trauma-Informed’ Mental Healthcare in the Age of AI
Presented by:
Benjamin Israel, MD
Board of Directors, International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation; CEO, Featherglass Health
This session introduces participants to the foundations of trauma-informed practice in mental healthcare, emphasizing how trauma shapes clinical presentations, staff experiences, and system-wide outcomes. Core principles including safety, empowerment, and collaboration are highlighted as essential, but insufficient, to accomplishing trauma-informed care. System-level behaviors that complement and complete trauma-informed principles will also be reviewed. Participants will explore practical interventions that can be implemented to assist both patients and healthcare personnel, supporting healing and reducing retraumatization. Finally, the presentation incorporates a discussion of advances in artificial intelligence in behavioral health, and their relevance to trauma-informed practice.
