“The Secret to Caring for Patients is to Care for the Patient”

Center for the Treatment and Study of Neuropsychological Disorders Team appears on ‘Three Moms in the Trenches’ podcast
September 2025: The Center for the Treatment and Study of Neuropsychological Disorders team, Rocco Marotta, MD, PhD (right), Lisa Mann, PhD (left), and Katharine Dougherty, PhD (center) were featured on the Three Moms in the Trenches podcast to discuss their book, Lives Reimagined: Changing the Course of Psychotic Illness. Through practical information and personal stories, Lives Reimagined presents the transformative approach to psychotic illness developed by Dr. Marotta, known to many as ‘Rocky,’ and his team at the Lodge Program at Silver Hill Hospital — an approach that has successfully treated innumerable cases previously deemed ‘hopeless.’
The goal of the book is to share and promote the lessons that were learned from The Lodge experience, and offer hope and guidance to families, patients, loved ones, and practitioners in the field. While there is only one ‘Rocky’ and only one ‘Lodge Program, the Lodge approach can be learned from and aspired to. For families and loved ones, it can inform what to look for and what to expect.
‘Everything at The Lodge, we all can have.’ — Mimi Feldman, Podcast Co-Host
The themes that emerged at The Lodge, and which the book and podcast present, are not mysterious or unattainable — they are the result of a team deeply committed to the same cause: treat each person as an individual; listen actively; remove hierarchy; include the family as a key member of the team; demand the gift of time; embrace the ‘gray’; allow an individual treatment plan to emerge and be tested over time; respect and love each individual and the dreams they have; trust, respect, connection, community, sustained relationship.
Everybody is in this together.
