The Silver Lining is an art and literature magazine by the Silver Hill Community.

All of the work included in The Silver Lining is created by our patients, alumni, volunteers and/or staff. First published in July 2005 by a Transitional Living Program group, the name was chosen from a contest entry submitted by a patient in that group, Michael.

Disappointment
Happiness comes in moments wedged between the sad
At first you hope that the joys will draw closer together
And that in the future they will form a cohesive whole
Then the world gives you the bitterest disappointment:
The realization that sadness will always punctuate your joy
It is impossible to sustain yourself with happiness forever
Instead, you must learn to live off of the anticipation
Then you can begin to brush away the emptiness
And the only shadow upon your heart will be
The knowledge that happiness is a pause in sorrow, not escape
