Grand Rounds: Rethinking Psychotherapy

Silver Hill Hospital
Over 1400 brands of psychotherapy have been developed over the last several decades. Research consistently demonstrates, however, that the differences in treatment outcome among brands and disorder-specific treatments are relatively minimal in comparison with the quality and strength of the patient-therapist relationship. In fact, differences among therapists are more significant than differences among treatments. This presentation will advocate a shift from a focus on treatments to the personal and professional development of therapists who must learn how to create strong alliances while using specific treatments and methods that best suit them and their patients.
