Lisa Genova presents her new novel, More or Less Maddy
New Canaan Library welcomes New York Times bestselling author Lisa Genova to discuss her new novel, More or Less Maddy. Genova presents a breathless, riveting novel about a young woman diagnosed with bipolar disorder who rejects the stability and approval found in a traditionally “normal” life for a career in stand-up comedy.
The New Canaan Library is partnering with Silver Hill Hospital and the New Canaan Community Foundation to present a panel discussion after Ms. Genova’s presentation including Andrew J. Gerber, MD, PhD, President and Medical Director, Silver Hill Hospital, and Lauren Patterson, President & CEO, New Canaan Community Foundation.
About the Speakers:
Lisa Genova graduated valedictorian, summa cum laude from Bates College with a degree in Biopsychology and has a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Harvard University. Lisa has captured a special place in contemporary fiction, writing stories that are equally inspired by neurological conditions and our shared human condition. She is the New York Times bestselling author of the novels Still Alice, Left Neglected, Love Anthony, Inside The O’briens, and Every Note Played. Still Alice was adapted into a film starring Julianne Moore, Alec Baldwin, Kristen Stewart, Kate Bosworth and Hunter Parrish.

Andrew J. Gerber, MD, PhD is a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist and faculty member at Yale. He serves as President and Medical Director of Silver Hill Hospital, a private non-profit psychiatric hospital in New Canaan. He is dedicated to building a continuum of high-quality care for patients and their families using an interdisciplinary and integrative approach, while also identifying new ways to provide innovative treatment to patients regardless of their resources.
Lauren Patterson serves as President & CEO of the New Canaan Community Foundation (NCCF). She has over fifteen years of experience in community philanthropy, and is passionate about building relationships, growing impactful philanthropy, and thoughtfully supporting work in community. NCCF launched the Community Behavioral Health fund in 2023, after several years growing investments and partnerships, with the goal of “shepherding the next phase of impact, focusing on a whole community approach to mental health and well-being.”
