Current societal awareness of rising opioid misuse and opioid-related harm is shaping the way clinicians approach pain treatment, particularly with respect to chronic pain management. Clinicians need to be able to offer diverse and effective options for the treatment of chronic pain, identify and address opioid misuse when it occurs, and to navigate current public policies, guidelines and best practices related to the use of opioids in pain treatment. This conference will provide attendees with practical strategies to engage patients, including those with opioid misuse, in effective, multidimensional treatment of chronic pain and will help clinicians optimize outcomes when opioids are indicated as a component of care.

Educational Objectives
1. Discuss key medical, public health and policies strategies, including roles for all clinicians, in reducing opioid-related harm
2. Describe neurobiologic & psychophysiologic interactions between pain and co-occurring substance use disorders and their implications for clinical management
3. Explain the role of MAT in management of opioid use disorders, identify patients with chronic pain for whom MAT may be indicated, and identify resources for further assessment & implementation as appropriate
4. Describe psychobehavioral approaches helpful in management of OUDs, make recommendations to patients regarding treatment options, and identify community based resources for psychobehavioral care
5. Describe the role of exercise and physical activity in recovery from chronic pain and co-occurring substance use disorders
6. Identify appropriate medication classes & interventionalist procedures for strategic treatment of patients with different types of chronic pain
