I will discuss psychological adjustment to dying and death and introducing our EMPOWER intervention that effectively targets both.

 

Educational Objectives   

As a result of participating in this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Clarify psychological responses to dying and death
  2. Demonstrate patterns in psychological responses to these losses over time
  3. Identify risk factors for poor adjustment
  4. Illustrate the conceptual model underlying our EMPOWER intervention for family surrogates of critically ill patients
  5. Discuss the approach to effective intervention to reduce grief and trauma in the context of death and dying
