Virtual Grand Rounds: Caring for Our Own: Reducing Suicide Risk and Enhancing Mental Health

Presented by:

Christine Yu Moutier, MD

Chief Medical Officer,
American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

Suicide prevention is a major public health priority in the United States, with a readiness to enact suicide preventive actions reaching a tipping point. Health professions are now shifting their occupational culture to prioritize mental wellness and suicide prevention both for trainees and the workforce. There are several initiatives with demonstrated effectiveness, which can be scaled up for greatest impact: education and stigma reduction efforts, safe connections to support mental health treatment, policies and procedures that approach mental health on par with physical health, and efforts that promote an overarching culture of respect.
