Presented by:

Brent P. Forester MD, MSc.

Dr. Frances S. Arkin Chair of Psychiatry, Tufts University School of Medicine

Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Tufts University School of Medicine

Chief and Chairman, Department of Psychiatry, Tufts Medical Center

Director of Behavioral Health, Tufts Medicine

In this Grand Rounds lecture, we will delve into the clinically complex world of late-life depression and older adult bipolar disorder. The aim is to shed light on the clinical features of these mental health conditions in older adults and explore evidence-based approaches for clinical assessment and management. This presentation will highlight key differences in the presentation of these mood disorders in older adults compared with a younger adult population and provide examples of assessment approaches. The lecture will comprehensively cover both pharmacological and psychotherapeutic interventions, providing insights into the most effective strategies for treating these conditions in the older adult population. By emphasizing an evidence-based approach, we hope to equip healthcare professionals with the necessary tools and knowledge to provide optimal care for older adults dealing with depression and bipolar disorder.
