“The Tetrad of Chronic Pain, Substance Use Disorder, Mental Illness and Suicide”

An evidenced-based presentation with case-based learning examples and recent clinical research.

Attendees will learn to understand the epidemics of chronic pain, substance use disorder (SUD), mental illness and suicide in the U.S. The presentation will discuss how the COVID-19 pandemic increased the severity of many public health epidemics and chronic medical conditions, and describe self-efficacy regarding the safe management of patients suffering from chronic pain and opioid use disorder.

 

Educational Objectives   

As a result of participating in this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Describe the epidemiology of Overdose Death and Chronic Pain in the United States
  2. Recognize the additive risks of prescription opioids with benzodiazepines and alcohol
  3. Discuss medications and harm reduction treatments for opioid use disorder
