The presentation will start with a review of current evidence for the clinical efficacy of classic psychedelics across multiple classes of neuropsychiatric disorders including substance use disorders, affective disorders, and anxiety disorders. The remainder of the presentation will consider candidate mechanisms by which classic psychedelic medications might exert their transdiagnostic effects, including an examination of their effects on neuroplasticity, learning, affect, personality, and interpersonal relationships. The possible role of the subjective effects of these drugs as well as the role of psychotherapy and other contextual factors will be discussed. Finally, we will consider possible directions for future research.

- Review the extent and limitations of current evidence for the efficacy of classic psychedelic medications
- Evaluate prominent theories concerning the therapeutic mechanisms of classic psychedelics
