Complex trauma poses a significant challenge for the LGBTQIA+ community, impacting individuals within this community at a disproportionately higher rate compared to the general population. This heightened prevalence can be attributed to various factors such as discrimination, bullying, abuse, and social isolation. Despite these challenges, there are strategies and resources available to assist and empower LGBTQIA+ individuals navigating complex trauma.

In this article, Emily E. Haas, MD, Director of the Triumph Program at Silver Hill Hospital, shares that, “40% of LGBTQIA+ people meet the criteria for a diagnosis of PTSD at any point.”
