The Steward House – A unique program for executives, professionals
Even the strongest, most ambitious and resilient professionals can struggle with mental health and substance use problems, including those responsible for overseeing large organizations or in important leadership positions, and those transitioning from such significant roles.
Founded in 2018 at Silver Hill Hospital as a collaboration with the Yale School of Medicine and Yale New Haven Health, The Steward House focuses on the treatment of professionals across industries who have developed serious mental health or substance use problems.
“I tell all my patients that coming to Steward House is an investment in themselves,” says Petra Pilgrim, MD (in video above), Director of the Steward House program. “It’s a pause from their high intensity lives so they can reset and continue on a path that is most fruitful for them. We see them as complex beings and have a lot of compassion for what they are going through.”
STEWARD HOUSE APPROACH
- Six-week immersive program (28-day minimum commitment)
- Intensive Daily Schedule
- Psychodynamic psychotherapeutic program
- Customized treatment planning and care
- Individual and group therapy
- Care team comprised of psychiatrist, psychologist, social workers, and counselors
A Collaboration with Yale
“The Steward House program uniquely weds the distinctive professionalism and environment of the Silver Hill Hospital with the innovative leadership of Yale Psychiatry,” says John Krystal, MD, chair of Psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine and chief of Psychiatry at Yale New Haven Hospital.
The program is defined by the range of proven therapeutic modalities and the presence and accessibility of the Steward House team to the residents. “No one gets this type of access to a psychiatrist at other facilities,” Dr. Pilgrim says. “I’m here and I know my patients. I eat with them. I drink coffee with them. I’m part of the milieu.”
