Helping College-Age Youth Move Forward

Young Minds Group at Silver Hill

Why do high-achieving youth get stuck?  And how can they get “un-stuck”?  Why do some young adults with big goals and dreams lose their direction?  Such youth often think deeply and creatively, and are able to explore these core conflicts, but may not know where to start.  Current outpatient services are usually not specifically tailored to such young adults. The twice-weekly Young Minds group offers a space to explore these challenges with expert clinical support and peer connection.

About the Program

This six-week, creative  group helps participants get “unstuck” by drawing upon expert guidance, multiple therapeutic modalities, and most importantly, each other.  Led by Amanda Calhoun, MD, MPH, sessions foster self-awareness, validation & affirmation, resilience, and  peer support through focused discussion, creative reflection, and high-level mind exercises.

Format

  • Duration: 6 weeks/12 sessions (rolling admissions available)
  • Schedule: Mondays & Thursdays, 10:30 AM
  • Cost: $250 per session
  • Census: 4–12 participants

Who Can Join

Eligibility:

  • Ages 18–30 and high school graduate (“College-age”)
  • Low risk for self-harm
  • Engaged in or willing to connect with outpatient therapy

Not eligible: Active psychosis, cognitive disorder, or active substance use

Each participant selects one core issue to explore, such as:

  • Identity and self-understanding
  • Family or relational conflict
  • Social isolation or loneliness
  • Anxiety, depression, or mood concerns

Admissions & Financial Process

The admissions team screens for appropriateness and facilitates financial clearance. Eligible patients meet with Dr. Calhoun to confirm readiness, safety, and therapy linkage before joining the group.

The financial clearance process mirrors that of the Weekly DBT Group, with payment options for either 3 or 6 weeks prior to assessment.
